‘The Whale Road’ could never have happened without the support and inspiration of the Onca Trust and Gallery. Laura Coleman, Trust and Gallery director, took part in the expedition and documented the journey on the Onca Website.
Laura Coleman founded the ONCA Trust and Gallery in 2012, and has a background in art history, arts administration and teaching. She has worked on grassroots conservation projects, and in Bolivia rehabilitated animals rescued from black market trade. It was there she made particular friends with a puma called Wayra, and decided to start ONCA – a way to explore the rapidly changing environment (and our relationship with it) through art, creativity and education.
ONCA’s mission is to foster and inspire a greater understanding of ecology through art and creative practice. The ONCA Gallery is a key hub for arts/ecology discourse. It curates and hosts exhibitions, performances, outreach and events that ask questions, that tell stories and initiate conversations about environmental change, whilst supporting and raising awareness for frontline conservation projects.
